1957 Two areas got a connection

15. Ruanda Urundi (9U5) Ruanda-Urundi, was part of the German colony of German East-Africa in central-Africa and was from 1924 governed by Belgium, first as a mandate area (until 1947), and lthereafter as a trust area. In 1962 de colony became divided into two different independent countries, Rwanda and Burundi. At the end of the nineteenth century Ruanda- Urundi was annexed by Germany, and became part of German East-Africa. Only a few Germans lived in this colony. After Worldwar One, at the treaty of Versailles, all German colonies got governments from several countries. Belgium was hoping to get all of German East-Africa because of their successful militairy battles in Africa. But only Ruanda-Urundi got under Belgian influence. In 1924, Ruanda- Urundi became a mandate area and was governed by Belgian-Congo. In 1960, Belgian-Congo got independency which followed by preparations from Ruanda-Urundi to become also independent. This independency took place on July 1, 1962. The idependent country Ruanda-Urundi had a short life, because the two parts Ruanda and Urundi separated soon from each other and formed two different countries Rwanda and Burundi.
